Our Ancestor Christiana Kistler (1801-1870) was the daughter of Philip Jacob Kistler and Catherine Rothrock (1777-1843). Philip Jacob was the son of Jacob Michael Kistler, (1751-1811) and Christina Hagenbuch (1759-1823). Jacob Michael was the son of Hans Jürg Kistler and Anna Marea Dorothea Levan (ca 1722-1779).
french origins
Our ancestors were manufacturers of brocade & taffetas in Picardy, so were probably well to do. You can see the original script of their marriage record (left) from 17 November 1697, after they had arrived in the Netherlands.
flight to the netherlands
The LeVan/LeVent family probably fled France & went to Holland after the Edict of Nantes 1685. Marie leBAUX/leBEAU, wife of Daniel LeVAN (1680-1768) is said to have sewed gold pieces into a dress of squares of cloth so as to carry it on their escape.

We have records for our ancestor Abraham Levan along with his brother Isaac and sister Anna Elizabet in Pennsylvania. Abraham and Isaac both served during the American Revolution.
