The Conner-Kistler Family
Our family history includes many well known lineages centered around our ancestor Daniel Connor, grandfather of Arthur F Metz.
Our family lineage also includes Swiss/German ancestors from such well known names as Kistler, Rothrock, Van Gundy and Hagenbuch.
.At least four men who served in the American Revolution, and one who fought in the French and Indian Wars, are found among these families. It is because of the work of many other genealogists (and the ability to match our ancestors with related descendants via DNA) that we area able to expand our tree so richly, and through their stories develop a clearer understanding of our ancestors’ lives in British Colonial America prior to and during the Revolutionary War.
conner
Daniel Conner has been somewhat problematic to track down, not least because he is sometimes recorded as Daniel and sometimes as David. A fortuitous reference to a Mennonite record opened up his ancestry for us.
Van Gundy
At this time we are confident that our oldest know Van Gundy ancestor was born in 1685. We know from family histories that Sgt Christian Van Gundy Sr served with the Pennsylvania Militia on the frontier During the American Revolution.
Kistler
The expansive Kistler family is well documented on several family websites. The Kistlers are of Swiss origin. Johannes Georg (Hans Joerg) Kistler immigrated in 1737 and was a Veteran French & Indian Wars.
Rothrock
Johannes Rothrock, born near Worms Germany, emigrated to America in 1736 Ship “Harle” . He was proceeded in 1733 by sons, Phillip Jacob and Johannes. Our earliest ancestor dates back to ca.1639 near the beginning of the 30 Years War in Europe.
hagenbuch
Like our other ancestral families, the Hagenbuch family also originated in Germany. Andreas Hagenbuch (b. 1715) and his first wife, Maria Magdalena (Schmutz), landed in Philadelphia in 1737 to begin a new life in the Americas.
