Lodowick Metz Sr

The Second Generation

Lodowick married Margaret (Gut) Metz (born about 1705 in Kloten, Zürich, Schweiz; daughter of Johannes Heinrich (Gut) Good and Anna (Leeinburg) Gut in 1736. Three children were born to them, but tragically Margaret died soon after the birth of her daughter Elizabeth.

Lodowick Metz Jr
(~1736–>1794)

Lodowick married Magdalena Hersche (Lang) Metz, and after her death married Margaret (Kingery) Metz (20). The image to the right is his home built on land he inherited from his father that still stands.

Margaret Metz
(~1738–~1800)

We have no additional information at this time.

Elizabeth (Metz) Reist
(1741–1810)

Elizabeth married Abraham Reist son of Peter Reist and Anaclore Boyer, probably early in the 1760s. She and husband Peter Reist lived on the “upper tract” of his father’s original patent, where Abraham farmed and also had a distillery.

After the death of his first wife, Lodowick married Barbara (Unknown) Metz in 1742. Lodowick died about December, 1756 in Rapho Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, aged about 50. Their children were:

Jacob Metz Sr.
(1745–1812)

Jacob was born in 1745 and served in the Lancaster Pennsylvania Militia during the fight for American Independence beginning in 1776. He took the oath of Allegiance to the United States in 1778. As a Mennonite he was opposed to war, and spent some of his time in the militia as a recruiter. He passed away in 1812.

Susanna Metz
(~1746–1832)

We have no other information about her at this time.

Christian Metz
(~1750– ?)

We have little information about Christian Metz. He appears in documentation of the American Revolution along with his brothers.

Ludwig Hans Metz
(~1754–1840)

Ludwig Hans Metz was born January, 1754 in Rapho Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Colonial America, Ludwig Hans Metz changed his name to Lewis John Metz in 1775 when he turned 21 years old. He died ca 1840 (aged 85–86) in Stark County, Ohio.

Abraham Metz
(1755–1843)

Abraham Metz was born on December 18, 1755 in Rapho Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America. Abraham was married twice, and lived his entire life in Rapho Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
